The Name of the Pushkin House

The exhibition “The Name of the Pushkin House” features selected works from the unique collection of the Pushkin House, including artifacts on permanent display at the museum. The Institute of Russian Literature, commonly known as the Pushkin House, has been engaged in scientific research, museum work, and educational activities for over a century. In 1921, Alexander Blok dedicated a poem to the Pushkin House, with lines that eventually became a poetic symbol for this institution.

The museum houses unique collections of fine art, books, photographs, and objects of material culture relevant to the history of Russian literature of the 18th–20th centuries.

The exhibition presents portraits of major figures in Russian culture, including the founders of the Pushkin House and renowned writers of the gold and silver ages of Russian literature, such as Alexander Pushkin, Vasily Zhukovsky, Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gogol, Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Ivan Goncharov, Anton Chekhov, Nikolay Gumilyov, Alexander Blok and Maxim Gorky. In addition, memorial items are also on display, including Zhukovsky’s briefcase, Lermontov’s pencil and dagger, Dostoevsky’s rosette, and a sculpture belonging to Alexander Blok. Finally, the collection also includes works of art by Leonid Andreyev and Mikhail Lermontov.
