In 1913, the School of Art and Industry named after Nikolay Fyodorovich Van der Vliet was opened in Pskov.
An art and industry museum was also established there. It housed artworks from Van der Vliet’s collection, including the painting “Moonlit Night” by Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky.
Over time, the museum’s collection was expanded to include porcelain and crystal products, replicas of ancient utensils, architectural ceramics, mosaics, frescos, and icons.
Since the 1950s, the building of the former School of Art and Industry has
housed the Pskov Art Gallery. It displays the museum’s collections as well as a
large permanent exhibition of fine arts from the 18th to the early
21st centuries. It includes some artworks from the original Museum
of the School of Art and Industry, as well as works by several former students
who are recognized as prominent Russian artists.
