The Boguchansky Museum of Local Lore tells visitors about the past and present of the district, the main directions of economic activity of the Angarians in the XVII–XIX centuries, the life and disposition of the Angara region, the history of political exiles, the exploits of the Boguchans during the Great Patriotic War.
During the year, the museum holds a dozen and a half cultural events, about 10 exhibitions, about 200 excursions. The museum is visited by up to 7 thousand people a year. The main fund of the museum has more than 4 thousand exhibits. The museum is equipped to receive visitors with disabilities. There is a lecture hall (cinema hall) on the territory of the museum.
The expositions and collections of the museum reflect the life and customs of the Angara region, works to preserve good traditions, cooperates with scientists conducting archaeological excavations in the Angara River basin.
Alexandra Alexandrovna Rukosueva, the director of the district library, was at the origins of the creation of the Boguchansky Museum. She began collecting materials about the Bolshevik-Leninists of the district.
Further, the formation of the museum is associated with the name of Daniil Markovich Andon. He conducted extensive educational work with young people, collected materials on the history of the Boguchansky district, which were housed in the building of the House of Pioneers.
Thanks to the efforts of D.M. Andon, a wooden one-story building for the district museum was built in 1988.
Since January 1990, the museum has become a branch of the Kansk Museum of Local Lore. On January 1, 1992, the Boguchansky branch of the Kansk Museum of Local Lore was renamed the Boguchansky State Museum. In the same year, the folklore collective “Angara melodies” was organized at the museum.
On October 6, 1993, the resolution of the Boguchansky district executive Committee on the formation of the Boguchansky Museum of Local Lore was issued.
By the decision of the Boguchansky district Executive Committee of People’s Deputies in 1998, for his great contribution to the organization of the Museum of local lore, personal authority, invaluable spiritual influence on the cultural life of the district, the museum was named after D.M. Andon.
In 1997, 1999, 2001. Boguchansky Museum of Local Lore took part in the museum biennales, which were held in the city of Krasnoyarsk.
In 2000, in the professional competition for the prize of the Committee for Culture and Art of the Administration of the Krasnoyarsk Territory “Inspiration”, the museum was awarded a diploma for the third place. For several years, the museum has been participating in competitions for the international Philanthropist Award.
On February 17, 2005, a fire destroyed the museum and exhibits. In April 2005, a room was allocated in the district House of Culture for museum staff who were supposed to collect exhibits. Residents of the village of Boguchany responded to requests to help restore the lost objects of history and brought everything that was a memory for them. Exhibits were collected from residents and abandoned houses and sheds. By the opening of the museum, more than one and a half thousand exhibits were collected and accounted for.
The pride of the museum is a fragment of the petroglyph “Geophysicist” — a stone-boulder of basalt rock, whose age is more than 3 thousand years. Gutters and anthropomorphic images are embossed on the surface of the stone.
On August 25, 2007, a new museum building was opened for the anniversary of the village of Boguchany and Boguchansky district.
