The branch of the Astrakhan Art Gallery, the museum and cultural center “House of Merchant Grigory Tetyushinov” was opened on September 10, 2010 in the former merchant’s house.
The building, which resembles an Old Russian carved terem, was built in 1872 in the Neo-Russian style by Grigory Vasilyevich Tetyushinov, an Astrakhan merchant of the first guild.
In 1995 the building was included in the List of Historical and Cultural Heritage Sites of Federal (National) Significance.
The house of merchant Tetyushinov is an interactive museum. Thus, the mansion offers immersive tours where visitors are “welcomed” by Grigory Vasilyevich himself, his wife Glafira Ivanovna and their daughter Liza. Guests are shown the office of the merchant, who once headed a steamship company and was engaged in charity and public activities.
The rooms of the ground floor
host temporary exhibitions from the collections of Astrakhan collectors,
vernissages of painters and masters of applied arts and crafts of Astrakhan and
other cities of Russia.
