The Adygeysk Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1991. Svetlana Gissovna Dahuzheva was appointed the first director of the museum. In 1992, the museum began to receive its first visitors. The official opening of the Local History Museum of the city of Adygeisk took place on September 27, 1994 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the city.
At the time of the opening, the Adugeysk Museum of Local Lore had more than 700 exhibits. Currently there are more than 4,500 items in the museum’s collection. The first exhibits were photographs, frontline letters, personal belongings and commemorative medals of veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Later the museum opened exhibitions that introduced visitors to archaeological findings, the culture of the Adyghe and the works of contemporary Adyghe craftspeople. A special place in the museum is devoted to the founding and development of the city of Adygeysk.
