The Oktyabrskoye Museum of Local Lore was opened to the public on July 4, 1992 thanks to the efforts of local historians S.N. Nartymov, G.N. Timofeyev, T.V. Diodorova, G.N. Lazarev, as well as the founder and first director of the museum Galina Illarionovna Makarova.
The exhibition is dedicated to archeology, ethnography, the nature of the region and its history before and after becoming part of the Russian state and in the Soviet period.
Visitors will particularly enjoy the ethnographic collection of artifacts of the indigenous peoples of the region — Khanty and Mansi — and the Russian settlers who came to the region in the 16th–17th centuries.
In 2022, after renovations, 12 themed exhibitions were presented to the visitors: “The Valley of the Ob River”, “Spiritual Culture”, “Material Culture”, “Hospitality”, “Economy of the Russian Population”, “Orthodox Christianity” and others.
Presently, the museum houses more than ten collections, including written documents, archaeological finds, numismatics and paintings. The museum offers excursions, educational events for children, and souvenirs.
