The Diorama Museum and Exhibition Center was opened on December 23, 1977 and initially had only one exhibit — the diorama depicting “The Establishment of Soviet Power in the Town of Vyatka”.
The diorama was created by the painter, draftsman, and muralist Arkady Ivanovich Intezarov and the painter, teacher, professor, and academician Nikolay Nikolayevich Solomin. It is a large three-dimensional model with a backdrop that has an area of 280 square meters. The diorama is recognized as one of the best in Russia according to its content and quality. The compositional center of the painted background is the image of the turbulent events that took place at the intersection of Nikolayevskaya and Spasskaya streets in Vyatka in December 1917.
The opening of the diorama in 1977 was a milestone in the history of Kirov. Crowds of people rushed in to look at the three-dimensional model dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the October Revolution. The painting tells the story of Kirov, shows its landscape, and reproduces the historical events of December 1, 1917.
