The bust of Leo Tolstoy sits on Zakrutkin’s desk alongside other items that were particularly cherished by the writer and war veteran. This item was brought from Rostov in 1950; the writer had bought it in an antique shop in Leningrad.
Vitaly Zakrutkin appreciated the bust for its
combination of compact size and high level of craftsmanship. For him, Tolstoy
was an unparalleled genius, and Zakrutkin regarded all of the writer’s
