The most important thing in military intelligence is to see and hear everything, remaining completely unnoticed by the enemy.
He participated in the defense of Moscow, Kalinin (now Tver) and Smolensk regions, and fought in the battles near Oryol and Kursk.
Boris Korotkov recalled his injury and the death of his friend as follows,My vision went black, and I fell down, losing consciousness. I woke up in the medical unit. <…> Slava Ivanov was lying on the table next to me, doctors and nurses were standing around him. They weren’t doing anything, Slava was dead, he was lying there with his eyes open, they looked frozen and were filled with tears. I bent down, blood sprayed from my nose onto Slava’s <…> body and tears rushed in torrents from my eyes. I said goodbye to my friend, Slava Ivanov from Kostroma. He was taken away. On the second day I was sent to a field hospital. My service in the divisional intelligence of the Yaroslavl Communist Party ended.
