Fyodor Alexeyevich Nekrasov was the younger brother of the poet Nikolay Nekrasov.
During his life he contributed a lot to the public education. He was awarded certificates of honor and a badge “For services rendered to the cause of public education in Yaroslavl governorate”. The letter of gratitude of the Yaroslavl provincial zemstvo, which is on display in the exhibition of the Museum-Reserve “Karabikha”, was awarded to Fyodor Alexeyevich in 1906.
By that time, he had done a lot for the development of public education and charity in Yaroslavl governorate. In 1894, Fyodor Alexeyevich initiated the opening of a school for peasant children in the village of Karabikha, for which a separate building was built soon. His wife Natalia Pavlovna Nekrasova became the trustee of the new educational institution.
In 1905, Fyodor Alexeyevich Nekrasov helped the zemstvo district council to establish a free public library in Karabikha.
The Nekrasovs actively participated in the activities of the “Society for the Promotion of Public Education and the Dissemination of Useful Knowledge in Yaroslavl Governorate”. Fyodor Nekrasov’s wife and their ten children were its members.
He and his family took an active part in honoring the memory of Nikolay Nekrasov in 1902, on the 25th anniversary of the poet’s death. During the Nekrasov exhibition, Fyodor Alexeyevich handed over several memorabilia, rough manuscripts of his brother’s poems, as well as the poet’s last, pre-death letter to him to the Yaroslavl governorate scientific archival commission.
The Nekrasov family played a major role in establishing the first free public library in Yaroslavl in 1899. Their book donations became a significant contribution to the library’s collection. Fyodor Alexeyevich and Natalia Pavlovna donated more than 2,000 rubles to the library’s treasury for the initial arrangement of the library.
From 1903 to 1906, residents of Yaroslavl collected
money for the creation of a monument to Nikolay Nekrasov in the city. 1,000
rubles was donated by the poet’s brother. The bust was commissioned to the
sculptor Matvey Afanasyevich Chizhov.
