The picture “Two. (Self-portrait with V.YA. Yukin’s portrait)”occupies a special place in the V.S. Egorov’s art heritage. Valeriy Sergeevich Egorov (1940–1998) is an honored artist of RF. There are two representatives of Vladimir Painting School in the picture.

There is an inscription “Dedicated to the memory of Viktor Popkov” in the lower left corner of the painting. Just four words left by the author give an opportunity to pay attention to an important thought and the artist’s inner experiences.

Viktor Efimovich Popkov (1932 — 1974), a Soviet painter passed away at the age of 43. The beginning of the flowering of his creative activity and creative activity of representatives of Vladimir Painting School was during the “Thaw” years. As the master of thematic compositions and landscape he became one of the founders of “Severe style” trend.

Warm friendly relations connected him with Vladimir artists. V.YA. Yukin, K.N. Britov and V.A. Potekhin were among them. There are their portraits that belong to the hand of Victor Popkov. The artists are depicted in interesting and unusual images. 

There is a reproduction of Victor Popkov’s picture “Father’s overcoat” in Valeriy Egorov’s work “Two. (Self-portrait with V.Ya. Yukin’s portrait)”. It is the reproduction that broadens semantic content of the double portrait.

Viktor Efimovich painted a self-portrait in the soldier’s overcoat. The overcoat as a relic was kept in the family of the artist’s wife. The artist depicted himself in the overcoat to convey the idea of continuity of generations.
