The ashtray displayed at the exhibition belonged to Anvar Gafuri, the son of the poet. He was born on November 27, 1910 in Ufa. After finishing school, Anvar went with his father to Moscow, where he enrolled at the Moscow Textile Institute, the Department of Artistic Design of Fabrics. The poet’s son was good at drawing, as evidenced by his works preserved in the family archive.

In Moscow, Anvar began working for the newspaper “Communist”. In 1933, the health of M. Gafuri deteriorated, and the young man decided to return home. He continued his studies at the Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute, then — at the Kazan Pedagogical Institute. Along with this, Anvar began to work for the radio committee of Tatarstan.

In 1939, Gafuri Jr. served in the Red Army and before the war, he returned with his family to Ufa. After taking a commanding course, he volunteered to the front in 1942. In his report, Anvar Gafuri wrote:

On the war, Anvar Gafuri travelled all the way to Königsberg. He not only participated in fights, but also was the editor of “battle leaflets”, a kind of front-line press. After the war, the poet’s son worked as an editor of musical programs at the Bashkir radio committee. Here he met the composer Kamil Rakhimov, with whom he wrote several Russian romances. He was also a freelance radio and television correspondent for many years, and was involved in popularizing his father’s work: he lectured, spoke at memorial evenings, and published memoirs. His stories and memoirs were in great demand. They came out in newspapers and magazines, could be heard on the radio. Memories of Anvar Gafuri were published as a book in Bashkir language by “Kitap” publishing house in 2001.

Anvar Gafuri often spoke at the Majit Gafuri House-Museum. “I often come here; I share my memories with visitors. I like to read the entries in the guest book: “Our National Pride! — Tukhvatullina from Tashkent wrote. — The museum created in honor of this genius helped us understand this, ” he recalled.
