Kent painted Arrival of Mail during his journey to Western Greenland, where he stayed for more than a year in an Eskimo village. His impressions were described in the books “Greenland Journal” and “It’s Me, O Lord.” The painting provides just as important a testimony of this austere land and its residents. The strict composition, endless space, and peculiarities of the northern light conveying the feeling of frosty air, sparkling ice and snow are the essence of wild nature. Despite the disproportion between human figures and the deserted landscape, we can feel the integrity and power of the local people.
