He came up with the idea to produce thematic series of chocolate, so that everyone wanted to collect the entire series. And if you got the same picture, you could always exchange with your friends. In addition, you could find an insert-attachment under the wrapper.

Children’s Wizard series of wrappers seems to be the most unexpected and most interesting.
The Russian State Library keeps 14 wrappers with different experiments that children could do at home, using materials on hand: glasses, eggs, needles, etc.

George Borman is a Russian confectionery company and trademark of the second half of the 19th — the first quarter of the 20th century. The company was founded by Grigory Nikolaevich Borman. In 1862, he opened a small shop called George Borman on Nevsky Prospect. All production was manual, by means of a single device installed in the workshop (that was a manual machine for making chocolate). G.N. Borman directed the income from the confectionery production to expand his business, and, in 1866, he bought, from German confectioner Heinrich Pfeifer, a chocolate factory on Angliisky Avenue.

In 1876, the first wholesale warehouse of confectionery products was opened in Apraksin Yard, and, two years later, wholesale warehouses were opened in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. In 1878, at the World Exhibition in Paris, George Borman trademark received the first gold medal. In 1895, the company’s products received two gold medals at the Exhibition in Paris. In the same year, at the Exhibition in Chicago, Grigory Nikolaevich Borman received an honorary diploma with a medal. In 1917, the head of the company, Georgy Grigoryevich Borman (son of the founder), left Russia. From 1920, he settled in France, where he opened a confectionary shop in Paris (26, av. de l’opéra, 9-e).

The company products have always been distinguished by a bright, recognisable design. Two capital letters ЖБ on the background of a stylised image of red wax seal — this trademark was always placed in the centre, sometimes replacing the image of the state emblem and the numerous medals of international and national exhibitions.

In 1870, at the All-Russian Exhibition in Saint Petersburg, George Borman products received a bronze medal. In 1876, Grigory Nikolaevich Borman was awarded the title of Supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty, with the right to place the state emblem on his products. The evaluation of the company’s activities at such a high level contributed to expansion of the business.
