Fyodor Tyutchev gave the Welenius grand piano as a present to his teacher Semyon Raich. The latter was a teacher, poet, connoisseur and translator of ancient and Italian literature.

A scholar and, at the same time, a man of letters, an excellent connoisseur of classical ancient and foreign literature, Raich became known in our literature for his poetic translations of Vergil’s ‘Georgics’, Tasso’s “Jerusalem Delivered” and Ariosto’s ‘Orlando Furioso’. He spent seven years in the Tyutchevs' house; there he simultaneously worked on translations of Latin and Italian poets and on the education of the future Russian poet. In addition, his own poetry was not so bad,

Semyon Raich became Tyutchev’s tutor in 1813. He was hired to prepare the young man for the university entrance exams. Raich was only 11 years older than Tyutchev, and therefore became his friend as well as his teacher. They shared a passion for literature and a predisposition to classical literature.
In October 1821, Raich became a corresponding member of the Free Society of Lovers of Russian Literature, and a year later — a member of the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature at Moscow University. His patronage made Tyutchev’s first publication happen — the Russian translation of the ‘Epistle of Horace to Maecenas’ was published in the ‘Works of the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature’. The teacher himself made his debut in print, finally publishing his long-term work — the translation of Virgil’s “Georgics”.
In October 1822, Raich defended his dissertation “Discourse on Didactic Poetry” to obtain the Master’s degree. In his works, he often addressed the conflict between the crowd and the lonely artist. His publications appeared in many famous almanacs and journals of his time such as ‘Polar Star’, ‘Mnemosyne’, and ‘Northern Flowers’.
Leaving for Munich in 1822, Fyodor Tyutchev gave Semyon Raich a Welenius grand piano as a present — eventually, it became part of the museum collection. The teacher’s heirs took good care of the family heirloom and donated the instrument to the museum in the 1990s.
