Gardner factory has had a long and great history that up to the present day has not stopped yet. The factory was launched in 1766 in the small village of Verbilki, which was located in Dmitrovskiy uyezd Moskovskaya province. The factory was founded by F. Ya. Gardner who handed it down to his son F. F. Gardner at the end of the XVIIIth century. Frans Yakovlevich Gardner’s descendants have managed the enterprise since its launching for 126 years.
F. Ya. Gardner started with manufacturing small amount of development type of porcelain. In 1796 by the time he died Gardner had turned it to the best private enterprise of Russia which produced porcelain. Nowadays, the monument to F. Ya. Gardner adorns “Park of Culture and Rest” in the settlement of Verbilki.
During the time when three generations of Gardner’s heirs managed enterprise it went through different days. After F. F. Gardner’s death (the founder’s son) his spouse came into inheritance. Under her direction the factory went into decline. However, afterwards her sons restored the enterprise and relaunched the production of the famous porcelain. Later the factory was sold to manufacturer M. S. Kuznetsov. For a number of reasons at the time when the enterprise was sold its state left much to be desired.
Proficient manufacturer M. S. Kuznetsov got at his disposal not only the factory but its richest heritage as well. He renewed the production. As the manufacturer
had his own porcelain and faience manufacture, he was knowledgeable in that matter. So, he managed to increase turnout of Gardner’s production.
With all this going on, Gardner trade mark on the ware was kept. That let save former purchasers of Gardner’s porcelain. During the years of managing the factory M. S. Kuznetsov continued producing porcelain on those patterns and shapes which had been collected at the enterprise in quantities for more than one hundred years.
