Artist Anatoly Lopatko (b. 1957) comes from the town of Maloyaroslavets, Kaluga region. There he graduated from the Kulikov Art School. His creative life is inextricably linked with his native land. He did not receive further systematic education; he considers his teacher the Kaluga watercolor artist and art critic Alexander Subbotin.
Anatoly Lopatko is a participant in numerous regional and Russian exhibitions. He took part in the painting of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in the village of Detchino, created the canvas ‘Wide Maslenitsa on Vasilyevsky Spusk’, participated in the project of the Russian Artists' Union ‘The Art Today’. His works are in the collections of museums in Kaluga, Maloyaroslavets, Borovsk, Tarusa, Moscow, in private collections in Russia and abroad.

Depicting two such dissimilar objects, the artist seems to contrast the past and the present.
