The ZSh-1-2M protective helmet is designed to protect the wearer’s head from bullets and shrapnel.

This model was adopted for law enforcement agencies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation by Order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1310-r dated September 28, 2007.

The helmet consists of a protective frame made of aluminum alloy and an aramid liner, a suspension system with a neck rest made of real leather, a bullet-resistant visor and a removable aventail to protect the neck. The aventail is fastened by a zipper.

The helmet liner is made of aramid fiber. This dense synthetic fiber is heat-proof and has great resistance to various chemical reagents. Aramid fabrics are used in the manufacture of body armor, helmets, extreme sports equipment, work clothes for employees of metallurgical workshops, as well as uniforms for rescuers, firefighters, and workers of special services. An American chemist developed aramid fibers called Kevlar in 1964. Aramid fabric is obtained from various chemical substances with composite additives. The fibers are intertwined using tabby, twill, and satin weaves.

The helmet retains its protective characteristics when exposed to moisture (rain, sleet, and so on).

The ZSh-1-2M helmet is available in two sizes: size 1 is suitable for hat sizes 54 to 60, and size 2 — from 58 to 64. The helmet can be adjusted and tightly fitted to the head using the suspension system.

Design-wise, the radio headset is installed and used along with respiratory protection. The radio headset consists of the following parts: a microphone on a flexible holder, a PTT (Push-to-Talk) button, a loudspeaker and a connecting cord. The headset is resistant to water, wind, and dust.

It is possible to adjust the position of the microphone, move it to the back of the helmet and fix it in this position.

The weight of the helmet without the visor and aventail is as follows: size 1 — no more than 2.2 kilograms; size 2 — no more than 2.5 kilograms.
