Helmet helmet — has a hemispherical shape with a protruding visor and side fields.
In 1940, the SH–40 (steel helmet of the 1940 model) appeared, meeting all the requirements. Previous helmet models were distinguished by the low quality of steel and the almost complete absence of bullet resistance. In addition, helmets of earlier modifications could not be worn on warm hats, which was a significant disadvantage in the conditions of Russian frosts.
In the 1940 helmet, the sub-track device was improved, as well as the depreciation mechanism. But the main thing turned out to be the development of carbon silicon-manganese-nickel steel, which received the catch designation I–1. It was the use of this type of steel that made it possible to achieve the necessary bullet resistance. The Soviet helmet SH–40, in which the Red Army went through the entire war, and which is still the basis for the helmets of the Russian army, was taken by Semyon Budyonny himself. First he hit the helmet with his saber, then fired at him with a revolver. “Well done. Well done!” was all that remained to say to the marshal.
