The jacket and the sailor’s striped vest of the Airborne Forces belonged to Andrey Gennadievich Mashkovsky, who performed his international duty in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. He was a private soldier, an intelligence operative, born in the Bashkir ASSR. He was employed at the Ufa Engine Industrial Association and was drafted into the USSR Armed Forces in 1984 by the Kirov District Military Commissariat of the city of Ufa. Served in the Republic of Afghanistan since February 1985. During a raid he was one of the first to notice an enemy group and after reporting its size to the commander, he opened fire from a machine gun. During the battle he incapacitated several rebels but got himself seriously wounded. On May 30, 1985, he died from his wounds at the hospital. He was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Star.
